Maynard Sherman Brown, of New Franklin, passed away Jan. 5, 2013, at Ashley Manor in Boonville. He was 86.
He was born June 10, 1926, in Owensboro, Ky., a son of George and Margaret Keenan Brown. The family moved to New Franklin in 1929 when Maynard was three years old and he had lived in New Franklin since then. Maynard married Hazel Ernst in Harrison, Ark., on Aug. 13, 1952.
Maynard was employed in sales for area automobile dealerships for many years and also at Geiger Furniture in Boonville. He worked at the Boonville Walmart for over 20 years and was awarded Greeter of the Year in 2005.
Mr. Brown served his community as a long-time dedicated member of the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery Association in New Franklin where he previously served as president and was a past member of the New Franklin Fire Department. He had also been a member of the New Franklin Lions Club. His favorite past-time was fishing.
Survivors include his wife and long-time care giver, Hazel Brown of New Franklin; his loving daughter and grandson, Linda Brown and Adam Brown, both of Columbia.
Maynard was preceded in death by three brothers, Boyd Brown, Freeman Brown, and an infant brother and by two sisters, Pat Davis and an infant sister.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 10, at Markland-Yager Funeral Home in New Franklin with Rev. Harold Young officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
