Fire Destroys home in north Howard County

Fire destroyed a home in Roanoke, Wednesday morning, Apr. 12. At 10:55 a.m., Armstrong Fire Protection District responded to the structure fire at the junction of Highway 129, three miles north of Armstrong on Highway 3, finding the home completely engulfed.
Due to the nearby structures and vehicles, Armstrong called for mutual aide from Higbee, Fayette, and Huntsville.  Twenty firefighters from the four departments battled the blaze for almost four hours before it was extinguished.
It is not known at this time how or where the fire started.    The home, owned by Reverend Earl Howell, fortunately had no residents home at the time, and there were no injuries.
Traffic on Highway 3 was re-directed while firefighters were on scene.
Later Wednesday evening, at approximately 7 p.m., the Armstrong Fire Protection District was called back to the scene.  Evidently smoldering debris had ignited a small fire.
