It was a close fight, but the Fayette firemen emerged as the Battle for Blood winners, defeating the Fayette police 60 percent to 40 percent.

The two engaged in the friendly competition Friday in an effort to collect much-needed units of blood. The drive took place at Fayette High School.

Robin Norfleet of the Community Blood Center set the goal for 25 units, which is exactly the number of pints collected. There were 19 first-time donors.

“It was a great success,” she said. “I hope we can do it again next year.”

Norfleet encourages groups around the state to organize blood drives. She may be contacted at 573-338-1385 or RLN@CBCKC.org.
