Winferd L. Long of Glasgow died Thursday (Aug. 21, 2008). He was 82.
Born Oct. 3, 1925, at Clayton, Kan., he was the son of Edward J. Long and Edna Everts Long.
Mr. Long attended school in Clayton and later served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Martha McGaugh on June 5, 1949, in Huntsville, Ark., and she survives. They made their home in Richmond. He was a millwright and was employed for six years with General Motors, then worked 25 years for Ford Motor Co., retiring in 1988. He also farmed and was a carpenter.
In addition to his wife, survivors include three sons, Louis Long and wife, Marge of Henrietta; Glen Long and wife, Leslie of Blue Springs; and Edward J. Long II and wife, Linda of Glasgow; three sisters, Fern Parker of Hill City, Kan., Nina Kent of Saylorville, Ark., and Lillie Hicks of Houston Tex.; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Helen Sells, and a grandson, Louis Christopher Long.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Woodland Cemetery in Richmond with the Rev. Jim Gilbow officiating. Fellowship for family and friends will follow the service at the Henrietta Community Center.
