Howard Countians will join the rest of the nation Monday to symbolically observe summer’s last gasp.
Labor Day is a legal holiday. Essential services will operate; however, all government offices, banks and schools will be closed, including Central Methodist University here.
There will be no mail delivery Monday and the post office will be closed. The lobby window at the post office also will be closed Saturday morning (today); however, mail will be delivered as usual.
Most retail businesses will be closed Monday, but grocery and convenience stores will operate on their usual schedule.
Trash pick-up for Fayette customers will be moved back a day for the coming week. Those with normal pick-up on Monday will be serviced on Tuesday and so forth.
The Fayette Swimming Pool will be open for the final weekend this summer –Saturday, noon to 8; and Sunday, and Monday, noon to 6 p.m. New Franklin’s Swim Park will be open the same three days, 1 to 7 p.m.
The newspaper office will be closed Monday. There will be no Fayette Advertiser printed next week, but regular office hours will resume Tuesday.
The Fayette newspapers will return to the regular twice-a-week schedule with the Sept. 6 Democrat-Leader.
