Central Missouri may have gotten an early start on fall this year. After beginning the month of August with average temperatures, the high failed to reach the 90-degree mark on 24 of the last 25 days.

A high temperature of 96 was observed Aug. 4, with the low twice dipping to 55 degrees (Aug. 18 and 25).

The high a year ago pushed the mercury to 105 degrees with a low of 59.

The below-average temperatures were accented by above average rainfall which nearly doubled that of the same month in 2007.
Six inches were recorded, with nearly 2.5 falling on Aug. 28. Last year, 3.5 inches fell during the month.
