Lady Falcon runners show off medals from Saturday’s cross-country opener in Jefferson City. From left: Tabatha Leaton, Emily Moore and Courtney Leaton.
Senior Tabatha Leaton led the way for the Fayette cross-country team last Saturday in the season opener at the Capital City Cross Country Invitational at Jefferson City. She finished third in her division and 13th overall.

“We had a good day today despite the mud,” said Head Coach Shauna Taylor.

There were two divisions represented at the meet, large school and small school. Varsity races were scored individually according to division and the top 20 runners medaled in each division. There were 51 runners in the varsity girls small school division and 75 total. The boys varsity division totaled 88 with 54 in the small school division. Junior varsity races were scored regardless of division. There were 44 JV runners in the girls’ race.

Leaton won a third-place medal with a time of 21:24:93 in the small school division.

In the JV girls race Emily Moore won a medal for finishing 13th. Courtney Leaton won an 18th-place medal.

On the boys side, senior Jordan Boulden got the season off to a slow start after battling illness. He finished 24th overall. Brian Baxter came in 51st and Jonah Jent was three places back for 54th.

The Falcon runners are back in action today at the Linn Invitational. Races start at 9 a.m.
