Two persons were taken to the hospital after a one-vehicle accident Sunday night in rural Howard County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Kasey G. Nichols, 19, Rocheport, was eastbound on County Road 434 in his 1998 Ford at about 10:20 p.m. He failed to stop as the road intersected with County Road 427, traveled off the road and struck a ditch.

A New Franklin teenager and a child less than a year old were riding in the vehicle. Suzanne, L. Coyle, 18, and the child, Cameron Coyle, were taken to University Hospital in Columbia with minor injuries. Nichols was not injured. All were wearing safety devices.

The Ford sustained extensive damage and was towed from the scene. According to the report, Nichols was driving without insurance.
