Ottis Paul Lawson Sr., formerly of New Franklin, died Monday (Dec. 22, 2008) at Ashley Manor in Boonville. He was 89.

Born Jan. 21, 1919, in Bonham, Tex., he was a son of Harmon David Lawson Sr. and Evelena Durbin Lawson. He married Joan Marie Thost of DeSoto, Mo., on May 15, 1948, and she preceded him in death.

He received ski-trooper and lineman training in the U.S. Army in the early 1940s, which led to a 30 year career with AT&T as a lineman and cable inspector. He was proud of his work with AT&T and retired to his farm near Franklin in 1978. He then custom bailed hay for area farmers until a severe ankle injury prevented him from further farming activities.

Survivors include two daughters, Ruth Browning of Franklin, and Sheila Friedrich of Ashland; a son, Ottis Lawson Jr. of Franklin; a brother, Earl Lawson of Fulton; three sisters, Maye Burriss of Sunrise Beach, Faye Stock of Gladstone, and Ruby Ritchie of West Monroe, La. Also surviving are grandchildren, Debbie Browning, Samantha (Browning) Woods, Tammy (Dobson) Reinkemeyer, Mike Dobson Jr., Ottis Lawson III, Jessica (Lawson) Taylor, Larry Lawson, Jay LeCure and Lorne Lawson as well as great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Lois Jean (Lawson) Dobson; three brothers, Arvil Lawson, Lloyd Lawson, Harmon Lawson Jr.; and four sisters, Rachel Todd, Lois Remmers, Dean Thomka and Betty Waller.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Markland-Yager Funeral Home in New Franklin. Visitation will be from 12:30 until time of service. Burial will be at Boonesboro Cemetery.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Boonesboro Cemetery or Sulphur Springs Cemetery in care of Markland-Yager Funeral Home, P.O. Box 126, New Franklin, MO 65274.
