CMU President Marianne Inman honored as 'Business Leader of Year'

Marianne INMAN accepts the Fayette Rotary Club’s “Business Leader of the Year” plaque Wednesday for contributions to the local business economy. Making the presentation is selection committee chairman Jim Steele.


Central Methodist University President Marianne E. Inman was honored as the Business Leader of the Year 2009 by the Fayette Rotary Club. The presentation took place Wednesday at the club’s regular luncheon meeting.

The award, given annually to outstanding business and community leaders in Fayette, is voted on by members of the club. Selectees may be members or non-members of Rotary.

Rebirth! Ribbon-cutting hails start of Glasgow company

It was a gala affair at American Discovery Textile Manufacturing Co. in Glasgow. Some 50 persons joined company owners and employees at the official ribbon cutting Friday.

The textile manufacturing company was kept open due to the efforts of local entrepreneurs and officials. Co-owners Christine Sanders (president of ADTM), Heather Johnson and Jason Monnig worked with the city, Tri-County Trust Co., and the Howard County Economic Development Commission to keep the plant open and expanding.

The company has contracts with the military, hospitals and retailers to make sleeping bags, outdoor lawn furniture cushions, tote bags and other textile products.

Vet distribution business on hold

The planned opening of a veterinary marketing business in the former McCutcheon’s Supermarket location on Highway 5 here has been indefinitely postponed.

Fayette native Chuck McCutcheon, a veteran of more than 26 years in the veterinary medical product industry, had last April begun discussions with Millpledge Veterinary Northern Europe. The firm is based in the United Kingdom.

“Their owner and management team asked me to manage their North American veterinary market planning and product launch,” McCutcheon said. “For approximately eight months I worked closely with a U.S. based consultant, as well as both Canadian and U.S. distribution personnel. I also consulted with our own Dr. Richard Taylor and Dr. Kenneth Vroman, as well as our Missouri veterinary school clinicians to gain confirmation of interest in the product line’s quality and performance.”

Fayette Lumber Co. closing

After 14 years in business, the Fayette Lumber Company is going out of business. In an ad on page 2, owner Tharen Jorgenson states that due to the economy, the business will close its doors March 13 and asks that all outstanding bills are paid by March 5.

The lumber business, located on the south side of town on Hwy. 240, is holding a going-out-of-business sale with items up to 40 percent off. It is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

New Casey's to open Thursday

The newly renovated Casey’s General Store will open Thursday at 5 a.m.

Located at 200 S. Church St. across the street from the current Casey’s, the new Casey’s will occupy what was formerly FastLane.

The convenience store will host a grand opening Friday and Saturday with discounts on food and a drawing for $500 worth of free gas (see advertisement).
