Labor Day is Monday

Howard Countians will join the rest of the nation Monday to symbolically observe summer’s last gasp.

Labor Day is a legal holiday. Essential services will operate; however, all government offices, banks and schools will be closed, including Central Methodist University here.

There will be no mail delivery Monday and the post office will be closed. The lobby window at the post office also will be closed Saturday morning (today); however, mail will be delivered as usual.

Step back in time this Labor Day

In what has become a local Labor Day tradition, area residents are invited to take a step back in time Monday during the sixth annual Boonslick Folk Festival in Howard County.

Sponsored by the Boonslick Area Tourism Commission, the event will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Also cooperating to sponsor the festival is the Missouri Department of Natural Resources State Park Division.

CMU Student Fair Set for Aug. 25 on Fayette Courthouse Square

The annual CMU Student Fair marking the start of the fall semester will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Aug. 25, on the Fayette Courthouse Square.

“This is the seventh year we have held the Student Fair,” said Kenneth Oliver, CMU vice president for campus life.

Local and area merchants and all of the CMU student organizations will have space for booths and stands. Additionally, numerous games and activities will be part of the fair again this year.
