Joseph G. McGuire, of Fayette, passed away Dec. 25, 2012 at Cooper County Memorial Hospital in Boonville. He was 80 years old.

He was born Oct. 1, 1932 in New Franklin, a son of George Newton and Bernina Smith McGuire. On Nov. 21, 1953, in Brigstock, England, he married Audrey Mary Flecknor and she preceded him in death on May 12, 2010.

Mr. McGuire served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1972 and was stationed in England, Anchorage, Alaska and Washington D.C.  Upon retirement from the Air Force he served on the U.S. Capitol Police Force for eight years. After returning to Fayette, he worked for the Fayette School District for several years as custodian and bus driver and later was employed with Sam’s Club in Columbia.

He was a member of the Fayette First Baptist Church, had served as a volunteer police officer for the City of Fayette and enjoyed bowling, St. Louis Cardinals and fishing.  He was a member of the American Legion and the Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include two sons, Leon McGuire of Austin, Texas; Kenneth McGuire of Fayette; three daughters, Jackie McGuire of Escondido, Calif.; Deneice Turner of Linton, Ind. and Susan Johnson of Fayette; two sisters, Ruth Alexander of Escondido, Calif. and Ruby Pate of Newport News, Va.; eleven grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012 at Carr-Yager Funeral Home in Fayette with Rev. Harold Young officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Burial with military honors will be at the Fayette City Cemetery.
