Glasgow resident, Esco Collier, passed away at Golden Living Center in Glasgow on Jan. 26, 2013. He was 82 years of age.
Esco Ray Collier, Jr. was born in Davisville, Mo., on June 14, 1930, to Esco and Leora (Wilkerson) Collier, Sr. Esco joined the U.S. Army in 1951 and served in the Korean War. He married Mary Prentzler at the Salem Lutheran Parsonage in Forest Green, Mo., on Dec. 10, 1977. Esco worked at American Recreation Sleeping Bag Factory as a Maintenance Supervisor for 39 years, retiring in 1992. He was a lifelong member of the VFW and a member of American Legion Post 211 for over 60 years. Esco’s favorite hobbies were hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Mary of Glasgow; one son, John (Barbara) Collier of Burlington, Iowa; three daughters, Betty Mae (Steve) Sapp of Columbia, Bonnie (Dale) Aholt of Glasgow, and Cheryl (Benny) Adams of Chesapeake, Ohio; four sisters, Melba Martin of Davisville, Mo., Frances Warren of St. Louis, Mo., Mary Lee (John) Hull of St. Louis, Mo., and Geraldine (Paul) Turnbough of Davisville, Mo.; 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Esco was preceded in death by one brother, Garland Collier, and one son, Michael Collier.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Chapel in Glasgow, with Rev. Harold Young officiating. Visitation will be held one hour before the service. Burial with military honors is at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, Mo.
Memorials are suggested to Glasgow Golden Living Center or Glasgow Senior Center in care of the funeral home.
