Irma Carmack peacefully passed away at her home, south of Glasgow Feb. 1, 2013, surrounded by her family which had always made her the happiest. She was 93 years of age.

Irma Frances (Pycke) Carmack was born July 4, 1919, in Saline County, Mo., to Joseph and Anna Marie (Prenger) Pycke. Irma worked at Kellwood Sleeping Bag Factory in Glasgow 48 years, from 1960 to 2008. She was skillful at many jobs at the factory from quilter and sewing machine operator to inspector. She considered her co-workers as her second family.  She married Dillard O. Carmack Feb. 17, 1942 and he preceded her in death Jan. 3, 1983. Together they raised seven children. Irma loved her family and was proud to be called “Grandma” by 19 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. She was an avid quilter and her quilts were top sellers at most raffles. She enjoyed playing card games especially pitch. She was a devoted member of St. Mary’s Church and the Daughters of Isabelle. Irma’s favorite times were when the whole family came home for family dinners because she loved to cook and be with all of them.

Survivors include two daughters, Rosalee Kirby of Fayette and Jo Ann (Mike) Meyer of Salisbury; four sons, Richard (Diane) Carmack of Glasgow, Maurice Gene Carmack of Nelson, Mo., Kenneth (Diane) Carmack of Glasgow and Bernie Joe (Janet) Carmack of Glasgow; and daughter-in-law, Marilyn Carmack of New Franklin.

Besides her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one son, James Edward Carmack, one son-in-law, Buddy Pete Kirby, a grandson, Maurice Dale Carmack and four brothers, Alvin, Edmond, Edward and Norbert Pycke.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, at St. Mary’s Church with Father Richard Frank officiating. Visitation was from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Glasgow with a D of I Rosary at 4 p.m. and a Prayer service at 8 p.m.. Burial will be in Washington Cemetery.
