Robert George “Bob” Davis, of rural Fayette, passed away Feb. 14, 2013, at the University of Missouri Hospital and Clinics in Columbia. He was 58 years old.
Bob was born in Boonville, Mo., on Oct. 27, 1954, to Joe Wes (J.W.) and Anna Patricia (Pat) Brown Davis. He graduated from New Franklin High School in 1973. Bob was a life-long cattle rancher on the Davis family property south of Fayette. In addition to his farming activities, Bob had great knowledge and love of horses. He was well known throughout the area as a top team roper, where he competed as a header. Bob had won everything from trucks and trailers to buckles and saddles, and along the way made countless friends who considered themselves fortunate to be part of his passion for horses and competition. Bob was always especially interested in young people and opened his arena for many practices and events where kids could share and enjoy their love of horses and improve their skills in all areas of horsemanship and good sportsmanship.
Survivors include two brothers, Joe Wes Davis, Jr. of New Franklin, Michael B. Davis and wife, Susan of Boonville; a sister, Pat Binkley and husband William “Buzz” of Nashville, Tenn.; nieces and nephews, Joe Wes (Trey) Davis III (Paige) of Columbia, Haden Tyler Davis (Nicole) of New Franklin, Ashley Holder Davis of Columbia, Whitney Genell Davis of Columbia, Wesley Williams Davis of Boonville, Shawn Davis Binkley and Lisa Keenan Binkley, both of Nashville; great-nephews, Jackson Wyatt Davis and Hampton Alexander Davis both of Columbia, Haden Riley Davis of New Franklin and Davis Binkley and Owen Binkley, both of Nashville.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister-in-law, Judy Upchurch Davis.
Bob’s place of rest will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in New Franklin with his family serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers will be Robert Lynn Meyer, Joseph Nichols, Darrell Smith, Danny Smith, Rick Smith and Wayne Knudson.
Funeral services was held at 3 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 17, at Markland-Yager Funeral Home in New Franklin with Rev. Harold Young officiating. Visitation was one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association.
