Fayette resident, Edith Cornelia Kunze died Thursday, April 24, 2013, at Boone Hospital Center. She was 79.

She was born March 11, 1934, the daughter of James and Irene (Hoffman) Freeman. She graduated from Fayette High School in 1952. Edith married Marion Kunze on March 30, 1956, and he preceded her in death Sept. 18, 2005.

Mrs. Kunze had worked as a telephone operator and as a sales clerk at Street’s and Alsop and Graham Drug stores and Mattingly’s Variety Store on the square in Fayette. She enjoyed gardening, growing flowers, reading, baking pies, doll collecting and making necklaces and loved being with her family.

Survivors include her two sons, Bryan (Connie) Kunze and David (Sandy) Kunze, all of Fayette; four grandchildren, Jesse (Tifffany) Swanson, Tori (Ben) Holt, Gary (Tara) Kunze and Dana (William) Campbell; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, James Freeman of Taylorville, Ill.; one niece and seven nephews.

Beside her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a great-grandson and one niece.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Fayette with the Rev. Robert Eichenburger officiating. Visitation will be  from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Fayette City Cemetery with Jim, Larry, and Mark Friedrich, Dale Kunze, Dale Davis and Bill John serving as pallbearers.

Memorials are suggested to the Fayette City Cemetery or the Howard County Library in care of Friemonth-Freese Funeral Service.
