Ruby Lee Ganaway Mayfield, 67, of Columbia, passed away Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013.

A celebration of her life was held Saturday, Sept. 7 at Second Baptist Church in Columbia. Visitation was at 10 a.m. and services followed at 11 a.m.

Ruby Lee Ganaway Mayfield was born May 29, 1946, in Armstrong, Mo., to the late Ruben Ganaway and Ruth Ganaway.

During Ruby’s high school years, she amazed many with her basketball skills and people continue to talk about it to this day. She was always very proud of her legendary hook shot. After graduating from high school, Ruby left Armstrong and moved to Columbia, Mo. She obtained employment at the University of Missouri with the School of Journalism and later the Reynolds Alumni Center, where she retired after an enjoyable 30 plus years of dedicated service. She loved her Missouri Tigers and had a room full of memorabilia.

Ruby’s greatest pleasure in life was spending time with and taking care of family, friends and loved ones. Ruby was always the life of the crowd. You could always find her dancing, singing to her favorite songs, and playing cards and family games. Ruby had a special relationship with all of her siblings. She loved bragging about her beloved Tigers and Lakers at cookouts with her brothers and traveling with her sisters to farmers markets for fresh corn and vegetables. Ruby had a very close relationship with her children and grandchildren. She was very involved in their everyday lives and especially enjoyed celebrating their accomplishments.

Ruby redirected her life to Christ in 2013 and joined St. Luke United Methodist Church of Columbia, Mo. She enjoyed attending church on Sundays with her sister and reading her Bible regularly.

Ruby Lee Ganaway Mayfield leaves to cherish her memory: two children, Jonah (Jenny) Ganaway of Columbia; Mia Mayfield of Kansas City; four grandchildren, Isaiah Mayfield, Lexy Ganaway, Quade Chatmon, and Gavin Ganaway; her significant other, Larry Madison of Columbia; four brothers, William (Ella) Tooley of Kansas City, Delbert (Joyce) Ganaway of Slater, Glenn (Melissa) Ganaway of Fayette, Lynn Ganaway of New Franklin; two sisters, Genelle Hawkins and Devolia Eubanks of Columbia; one uncle, Thomas (Jacqueline) Lee, of Prairie Home; two aunts, Naomi Christian, of Higbee and Alva (Woodrow) Wilson, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Ruby was preceded in death by: her parents Ruth and Ruben Ganaway; two brothers, Curtis Tooley and Chester Ganaway; and two sisters, Myrtle Tooley Canton and Verna Tooley McKee.
