Bill Woods passed away at his home in New Franklin, Oct. 1, 2013. He was 87 years of age.

William Newton Woods was born Jan. 17, 1926, in Howard County. Bill was raised by Clinton and Maude Ivy. He attended New Franklin School. Bill served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1949. His first wife was Evelyn Lucille Craig and she preceded him in death. He married Olive Sylvara, Jan. 12, 1985, in Moberly, Mo.

In Bill’s early years he delivered milk from the dairy farms to Craig’s Dairy in Boonville. He also delivered water to people in Howard County. He farmed, gardened and raised tobacco along with doing some construction work. Bill was a member of the Boonesboro Christian Church, Boonville Odd Fellows, American Legion, Boonslick Riders, Boonville Boots and Saddle Club and the Little Dixie Squaredancers Club. When time allowed he enjoyed riding horses and being with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Olive of the home; son, Bentley Woods , daughter, Linda Bishop; foster son, Charles Ivy, all of Franklin; step son, Roy Bingamam of Slater; two sisters, Margaret Craig of Boonville and Thelma Smith of Blue Earth, Minn.; 16 grandchildren and a number of great and great-great grandchildren.

Besides his parents and first wife he was preceded in death by one son, William Bradley Woods and two granddaughters, Sherrie and Courtney.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Boonesboro Christian Church with Revs. Ryan Lyons and Roger McMurry officiating. Burial with military honors was in the Boonesboro Cemetery following the service. Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, at the Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Fayette.

Memorials are suggested to the Boonesboro Christian Church or Boonesboro Cemetery Endowment Fund in care of Friemonth-Freese Funeral Service.
