Devonia Raye “Dimp” Turner, of Fayette, died at Fayette Caring Center on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013. She was 75 years old.

An only child, she was born in Kansas City, Kan., to Beatrice Letcher and Columbus Sims on July 27, 1938. She resided there until she met and married Earl Turner, Sr. of Fayette, Mo.

She was the proud mother of nine children, Earl Turner, Jr. (Christine) Las Vegas, Nev., Edith M. Turner (deceased), Denise Collins (Ray) of Columbia, Mo., Darrell Turner, Sr. of Fayette, Thomas Turner (Ramona) of Columbia, Sheila Turner of Fayette, Stephanie and Stephen Turner both of Columbia, and John Turner (Robin) of Columbia. She also leaves 28 grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.

For more than 30 years, Devonia worked in the field of nursing as a certified medical aide beginning at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, Menoir Hospital in Kansas City, Mo., and Lenoir, Candlelight and Columbia Manor Care facilities in Columbia. Throughout her nursing career, Devonia achieved many certificates and merit awards for her outstanding work as a nurse in Columbia where she continued as a care-giver until she retired in the late 1990s. Devonia loved her grand and great-grandchildren and provided day care to many of them after retirement.

A lover of music, she enjoyed playing her piano, singing and drawing. She also loved to travel, but most of all she enjoyed the special times with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Edith.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Monday, at Carr-Yager Funeral Home in Fayette. Visitation was from 11:30 a.m. Monday until time of service. Interment followed at Fayette City Cemetery.

Following the services there was a family reception at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Fayette.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association.
