Glasgow resident, W. Michael Monnig died suddenly Nov. 29, 2013, in Glasgow. He was 56.

Wilfred Michael Monnig was born Feb. 12, 1957, in Boonville, Mo., to Wilford A. and Shirley (Ginter) Monnig. He was a graduate of the Glasgow High School class of 1975. Michael had worked at the Columbia Rock Quarry for 11 years and a number of years at Standard Havens in Glasgow. He also farmed and raised tobacco most of his life.

He married Elizabeth Straatman June 9, 2007, at St. Mary’s Church. Mike enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, collecting arrowheads, watching the St. Louis Cardinals and spending time with Oscar. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Knights of Columbus, Glasgow Eight Mile Road District and the Burley Tobacco Association of Weston, Mo.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth of the home, his mother, Shirley Monnig, two brothers, Dale (Rhonda) and Stacy (Mindy) all of Glasgow and sister, Dorothy (David) Moorhead of Tifton, Ga., and a number of nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his father Wilfred A. Monnig.

A funeral Mass was held at 10 a.m. Dec. 3, at St. Mary’s Church in Glasgow with Father Richard Frank officiating. Visitation was from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., Monday evening at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Glasgow, with a Rosary being said at 7:30 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the Knights of Columbus or Washington Cemetery Association in care of Friemonth-Freese Funeral Service.
