Hazel L. Asher, of Higbee, passed away at her home on Dec. 13, 2013. She was 80 years old.

Hazel was born Oct. 26, 1933, in Huffman, Ark., to Alfred and Lucille Curtis Barnett. She married Clarence Asher on April 8, 1949, in Corning, Ark. He preceded her in death in 1982.

Prior to retirement, Mrs. Asher was employed at Keller Hospital in Fayette as nurse’s aide and also was a housekeeper. She was a member of Harrisburg Baptist Church.

She is survived by six children, Linda Head and husband, Mike of Higbee, Clarence Asher, Jr. and wife, Davida of Columbia, Mo, Barbara Gibson of Higbee, Timothy Asher and wife, Kannatha of Higbee, Joseph Asher and wife, Lori of Centralia and Sue Wilson and husband, J.R. of Moberly; a son-in-law Joe Piotrowski; five brothers, Henry, Lester, Ricky, Tommy and John “J.D.” Barnett; three sisters, Connie Prewett, Sylvia Razor and Debbie Warbritton; 23 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Dolly Piotrowski; a brother, Larry Barnett; a sister, Mary Barnett and a son-in-law, Jim Gibson. Her step-mother, Norma Barnett, also preceded her in death. Hazel lost her mother at age 6 and Norma raised Hazel as her own.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013, at Carr-Yager Funeral Home in Fayette. Burial was in Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Fayette. Visitation was Monday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Asher Family Cancer Treatment Fund to assist members of Hazel’s family undergoing cancer treatment in care of Commercial Trust Company of Fayette.
