Billy J. Bowman, 91, of Boonville, passed away at Cooper County Hospital on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013.

Billy Bowman was born in Burton, Mo., on Oct. 5, 1922, to Melba Bowman. Billy was married to Margaret Bryan on Nov. 1, 1942, in St. Louis, Mo. He was a graduate of Fayette High School, a World War II veteran and a member of the Knights of Columbus as a Fourth Degree Knight. He was very active in his church as a past president of the Parish Council, past Rotary Club president and he had taken care of the K of C swimming pool for may years. He and Margaret were co-owners and operators of Spic & Span Cleaners in Boonville for 20 years until their retirement in 1985.

Billy is survived by his children, Dan and Connie Bowman of Fayette, Chris and Celeste Bowman of Boonville, Mo., Mary and Gary Belstle of Fayette, Mo. Billy was blessed with six grandchildren; Seth Belstle, Fayette, Andrea Chen, Fairview Heights, Ill., Jesse Bowman, Columbia, Mo, Stacey Belstle, Boonville, Rebecca Ann Bowman, St. John, Mo., and Nathan Belstle, Fayette. He also leaves behind seven great-grandchildren; Landon Belstle, Brynn Belstle, Aurora Bowman, Blain Chen, Jude Bowman, Cameron Chen and Levi Belstle.

Billy was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years and 7 months in June of this year, his mother, grandparents and one grandson, Z`achary Belstle.

Visitation were held at Davis Funeral Chapel on Tuesday evening, Dec. 17, from 6 until 8 o’clock. The rosary was recited at 5:30, before the visitation with a prayer service at 6 o’clock. The Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at SS Peter and Paul Church at 10 o’clock on Wednesday with Father Bob Duesdieker officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to SS Peter and Paul School.
