Richard Megas, 64, of New Franklin passed away unexpectedly Sunday evening, Jan. 12, 2014 at University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia.

Richard Lane Megas was born Oct. 27, 1949, in Beaumont, Texas, the son of Richard Lewis Megas and Louise Bernice LaRose Megas. He married Melissa Ann Alsop March 11, 1972, in New Franklin, Mo. Richard worked for the University of Missouri as a power plant operator until his retirement in 2002. He served his country in the Navy. Richard and Melissa were lifelong residents of New Franklin. He enjoyed reading, cooking and working cross word puzzles. He also loved the outdoors shown by his love to hunt and fish. Richard never knew a stranger and this showed when he could tell you the most trivial things he knew. Most of all his family was the most important thing to him.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents, wife Melissa and brother Robert.

He is survived by his two daughters; Mindy Megas-Loucks and husband James, Morgan Megas and fiancée Clay Hammond Jr., a sister Gayle Hebert and husband Mike of Beaumont, Texas, and will be dearly missed by his grandchildren: Elsie, Harley, Lillie and Isabella Cramer, and Daniel and Nathan Hammond.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, at Davis Funeral Chapel. Celebration of Richard’s life will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 17, at Davis Funeral Chapel with Larry Luetjen officiating. Inurnment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in New Franklin with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donation to the family for the grandchildren’s education.
