Pat Stapleton died peacefully at the age of 80 on Dec. 10, 2013, in the assisted living facility in which she resided in Springfield, Ore., having been in decline with Alzheimer's for several years. Her son, John, was by her side.

Pat was born Nov. 18, 1933, and raised in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of B.W. and Alice McDaniel (deceased). She was a graduate of Central High School and Central Missouri State College (1955) before attaining a MA in Education and MFA from the University of Missouri, Columbia, while also teaching art in various high schools and eventually as Professor of Art at Central Methodist College (now University), Fayette, Mo. Pat was also a Fulbright Scholar.

Pat is survived by her children Ann Stapleton (Bob Bryden), Amy Stapleton (Andy Hahn), John Stapleton (Tiffany Eckert-Stapleton), grandson Sean Stapleton and brother Jerry McDaniel (Ulla McDaniel).

After teaching Pat was an administrative assistant at the Medical Center at the University of Missouri, Columbia. Pat was always drawn to the ocean so in the mid-1980s she moved to Sacramento, Calif., where she served in staff positions at UC Davis, and ultimately at Sacramento State where she was the secretary in the Department of Art. She was artistic to her fingertips, especially with watercolor, and she also traveled widely in Asia and Europe, with a special interest in the handicrafts of India.

There will be a future memorial service where her ashes will be scattered at her favorite haunt on the California coast. Pat's laughter and energy, her marvelous talent, her love of life ... all will be missed by those fortunate enough to have known her.

There will also be a memorial art show in Fayette in the future. An announcement will be made at a later date.
