Robert Eugene “Bob” Klusmeyer, age 82, of New Franklin, passed away at his home on Feb. 22, 2014, after an extended illness

Bob was born on the family farm in New Franklin on Oct. 13, 1931, to John O. and Mary Ambrose Klusmeyer. He married Elwanda Jackson in New Franklin on Dec. 26, 1950. She preceded him in death on Feb. 2, 2002.

Bob was a long time local farmer in Howard County where he farmed the family farm until the mid 1980s. His grandparents were among the original founding fathers of the (Evangelical) United Church of Christ in New Franklin, where he was a member. He attended the Boonville Public Schools.

Mr. Klusmeyer served his nation from 1953–1955 in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. At the time of his discharge he held the rank of Sergeant.

He was a well-respected employee of the State of Missouri and received commendation from the State of Missouri for his 38 years of service, beginning with the Training School for Boys in Boonville in 1956 and ending with his retirement from the Department of Corrections at the Boonville Correctional Center in 1995 with the rank of Captain.

Bob was an avid hunter and fisherman until his health prevented him from actively doing so. However, his favorite pastime was watching his grandchildren participating in sports. He enthusiastically supported them in all their activities. He was their biggest fan in whatever they pursued and beamed with joy whenever he spoke to them about their accomplishments.

He is survived by four children: Diana (Richard) Lang of New Franklin; Mike Klusmeyer (fiancée Stephanie Garrigan) of Wauconda, Ill.; Tim (Julie) Klusmeyer of Midway, Mo. and Bruce (Suzanne) Klusmeyer of Glasgow, Mo.
