Fayette resident, Professor Karol Welcelean died of a sudden heart attack at University Hospital April 30, 2014. He was 90 years of age.

Karol R. Welcelean was born July 14, 1923, in Canton, Ohio, to Julius and Mary (Joss) Welcelean. Mr. Welcelean served in U.S. Army during WWII. He married Mary J. Baker June 4, 1949, in Cincinnati, Ohio, and they were married for 59 years. Mrs. Welcelean passed away Nov. 7, 2008. Professor Welcelean received his BM and MM in Music from Heidelberg College and the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and taught for 36 years at Central Methodist University retiring in 1988.

Professor Welcelean is survived by two daughters, Pam Hines and her husband Mike of Fenton, Mo., and Amy Welcelean of Fayette; a sister, Cynthia and husband, Russell Oden of O’Fallon, Mo.; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Hines, Tim and Danny Virdi; two great grandchildren, Ezra and Makai Virdi. Besides his parents and wife ,Karol was preceded in death by a daughter, Paula Virdi and one brother, Elbert Welcelean.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Sunday, May 4, 2014 at the Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Fayette with Rev. Dr. Russell Oden officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Walnut Ridge Cemetery.

Memorial are suggested to CMU, Linn United Methodist Church or Phi Mu Sinfonia in care of Friemonth-Freese Funeral Service, 174 Hwy 5 & 240 N. Fayette, MO 65248.
