Edwin Fred Langewisch, 90, of Boonville, formerly of Howard County, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2014, at Cooper County Memorial Hospital.

He was born on Nov. 11, 1923, on the home farm northeast of Sweet Springs, Mo., to Frederick William (Bill) Langewisch and Anna Margaret Reinwald Langewisch. They preceded him in death along with eight brothers and sisters: Minnie Charles, Mary Pummill, Emma Viets, Lena Clevenger, Ida Meadows, Bill Langewisch, Leona Langewisch, and Lester Langewisch. He was the last of his siblings.

He attended Christ Liberty Lutheran Church during his childhood. Ed married Muriel Bales, on May 1, 1948, at the Bales home.

In 1950 he and Muriel moved to a rented farm in Lafayette County where their five children were born. In 1963 the family purchased their farm in Howard County a few miles north of New Franklin where they spent the next 51 years. Due to declining health, they moved to Hartman Village in Boonville in March of this year. During his last weeks, Ed was continually visited by loving family and friends.

Ed was a lifelong farmer. Ed and Muriel were members of the New Franklin First Baptist Church where Ed served as a Deacon for 45 years. Ed also served for 30 years as a board member of the Howard -Cooper Port Authority.

Ed is survived by his wife, Muriel, his children: Edwin Henry Langewisch (Deborah), Stewart Alan Langewisch (Carol), Curtis Neal Langewisch (Brenda), Betty Jean Pennington (Barry), and Keith Lee Langewisch (Barbara); 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, June 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the New Franklin First Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at the church on Wednesday, June 11 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Kenneth Stacey officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in New Franklin.

Memorial contributions are suggested to New Franklin First Baptist Church or the Cancer Research Center of Columbia.
