Betty Jean Duncan, of Boonville, Missouri, passed away Aug. 21, 2014, at her home at the age of 78.

She was born in Franklin, Mo., on July 18, 1936, a daughter of John C. and Lola Mae Jackson Bledsoe. Betty married Loyd Kenneth Duncan on Oct. 30, 1959. He preceded her in death Jan. 26, 2006.

Betty was a member of the New Franklin Christian Church. She was a 1955 graduate of New Franklin High School. Prior to retirement, she had been employed with Toastmaster, Boben Manufacturing and Bimet, all of Boonville. Her favorite activities included, volunteering at Neighbors Helping Neighbors Food Pantry in Boonville, collected angels, being a Missouri Tigers basketball fan and traveling. Of most importance to her was her family. Her sons remember her as working hard to make sure they had what was needed for their school activities and going to all of their games and activities wherever they were and being kind and generous to her friends and neighbors, especially her neighborhood children.

She is survived by two sons, Larry Roland Duncan and partner, Angelyn of Sardis, Ga.; Lonnie Dean Duncan and wife, Heather of Boonville; two sisters, Nora Dockins and Irene Bledsoe, both of New Franklin; and eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by three brothers, William Bledsoe, Melvin Dobson and Larry Bledsoe.

Funeral services honoring Betty’s life will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2014, at the New Franklin Christian Church with Rev. Roger McMurry officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Markland-Yager Funeral Home.

Interment will be at Old Lamine Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the New Franklin Christian Church.

Arrangements are entrusted to Markland-Yager Funeral Home, New Franklin, Mo.
