Ollie (Leon) Lusby Sr. of Fayette, died Wednesday (Nov. 11, 2009) at the Golden Living Center in Glasgow. He was 90.

Born June 11, 1919, in Armstrong, he was the son of Alfred G. and Dora L. Griffin Lusby. On Nov. 5, 1940, in Boonville, he married Elizabeth Sue Walters and she preceded him in death on Nov. 7, 2005.

Leon, as many knew him, was a retired mechanic, working for many years at Deatherage and Moon in Fayette. He served his nation in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded three Bronze Stars and the Good Conduct Medal for his service in campaigns and battles of New Guinea, Luzon and the Southern Philippines.

Survivors include his children, Leon Lusby Jr. and wife, Priscilla, of Fayette; David Lusby and wife, Deborah, of Clinton; Carolyn Polson of Fayette; Connie Drewery and husband, Pete, of Moberly, and Vicky Ray of Gallatin, Mo. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Sheila Lusby on Dec. 22, 1994, and by his siblings, Homer Lusby, Ethel Dodson, Mabel Hatfield, Carroll Lusby, Russell Lusby and Christine Hatfield.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at Carr-Yager Funeral Home in Fayette. Graveside services with full military honors will follow at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Fayette City Cemetery.
