Richard Carl Kenepp, longtime Fayette resident, died Dec. 16, 2011, at the Harry S Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital in Columbia at the age of 86.
Born in Fayette on Dec. 25, 1924, he was a son of George Robert and Edith Margaret Dettmers Kenepp. He served his nation with honor during World War II in the U.S. Army 148th Infantry in the Asiatic/Pacific Theater. He received a Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Arrowhead, Good Conduct Medal and Philippine Liberation Ribbon. He was honorably discharged from active duty in December of 1945 attaining the rank of Sergeant. Doc was the owner and operator of service stations in Fayette prior to retirement. He was a member of the V.F.W. and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include four nephews, William “Bill” Burton, Jr. of Durant, Okla., Robert Westfall of Higbee, Earl Ray Westfall of Richmond, Mo., George Lee Kenepp, Jr. of Bonne Terre, Mo.; two nieces, Elaine Burton Southerland of Noble, Mo., Mary Belle Westfall Bailey of Higbee as well as numerous great, great-great, and great-great-great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, W.R. Kenepp, Orville Kenepp; two sisters, Hannah Kenepp Shields, Margaret Kenepp Burton; a half-brother, George Kenepp, Sr., a half-sister, Ella Mae Westfall; a nephew, Bill Shields and three nieces, Billie Jean Trowbridge Mary Lou Kenepp Shoemacher and Carol Kenepp Hoffman.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Monday, Dec. 26, at Carr-Yager Funeral Home in Fayette. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Burial with military honors will be at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Fayette.
