Rita Alberta Thies of Glasgow died April 9, 2012 at her home. She was 91 years of age.
She was born Sept. 19, 1920, in Moberly, to Christine Elizabeth Heddinghaus and Albert William Schmidt.
On June 1, 1943, she married Joseph Francis Thies at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Moberly. They moved to the family farm east of Glasgow following their marriage and lived their entire life on the farm. Joe preceded Rita in death on July 5, 1978.
Rita was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Glasgow, a member of the Council of Catholic Women, St. Mary Quilters and the Armstrong Senior Citizens. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and enjoyed sewing and quilting.
Survivors include three sons, Jerome (Kathleen) Thies of Fayette, Mo., Paul (Colette) Thies and Danny (Robin) Thies, daughter, Bonnie (Jeff) Meyer all of Glasgow, and one son-in-law, Gary Littrell of Concordia, Mo; 18 grandchildren: Mike Thies, Mark Thies, Janet Ancell, Julie Monnig, Laura Korte, Sarah Thies, Steven Thies, Grant Thies, Matt Thies, Luke Thies, Damian Thies, Ross Thies, Angie Miller, Andy Littrell, Lance Littrell, Joseph Meyer, Stacey Kottman and Ben Meyer and 41 great-grandchildren; Rita was also survived by one sister, Theresa Hopkins, one brother, Herbert Schmidt, sister-in-law Peggy Schmidt, all of Moberly, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, Rita was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Littrell, one brother, Leo Schmidt, brother-in-law Levi Hopkins and a sister-in-law Lucille Schmidt.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Glasgow. Father Richard Frank will officiate. Burial will be in Washington Cemetery in Glasgow with Rita’s 12 grandsons serving as pallbearers.
