Verna Glorianna Tooley McKee, of Fayette, was born Oct. 15, 1939, in Forest Green, Mo., to Ruth Devolia Lee (Ganaway) Tooley and Cecil Tooley.  She passed away on June 26, 2012 at Landmark Hospital in Columbia, Mo.  She was 72.

Verna was married on July 4, 1956, to Forest R. McKee, Sr.

She was employed by Fresh Ideas at Central Methodist University in Fayette.  She worked at the University for over 40 years.  She loved her job and loved all the kids she came in contact with.  She called all the students HER kids. Most of the students called her “Sugar” or “Mom.” On occasion, someone would call her “Verna” and the students would ask, “Who’s that?”  The lady in the snack bar. “Oh, you mean Sugar, Yea that’s mom.”

As much as she loved all of her Central Methodist family, her heart went to her son, his wife, her grandkids, and her great-grandkids.  She was a proud mother and grandmother. She loved her family and they loved her.

Verna leaves to mourn, her mother, Ruth Ganaway of Fayette; one son, Forest (Lori) McKee, Jr. of Columbia; five brothers, William (Ella) Tooley of Kansas City, Mo.; Chester (Marsha) Ganaway of Boonville; Delbert (Joyce) Ganaway of Slater; Glenn (Missy) Ganaway of Fayette; Lynn Ganaway of New Franklin; three sisters, Genelle Hawkins, Devolia Eubanks and Ruby (Larry) Mayfield, all of Columbia; four grandchildren, Jonathyn Duemmel and Darren Duemmel both of Columbia; Angela McKee of Fayette; Joshua McKee of Boonville and seven great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Verna was preceded in death by her husband, Forest McKee, Sr.; one son deceased at birth; her father, Cecil Tooley; one brother, Curtis Tooley and one sister, Myrtle Jean Tooley Canton.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, June 29, 2012 at Carr-Yager Funeral Home in Fayette.  Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 30, 2012 at Linn Memorial United Methodist Church in Fayette.  Burial will follow at Hilldale Cemetery in rural Howard County, Mo.
