Helen Knierim, 84, of Prairie Home, passed away at Cooper County Hospital on Friday, July 13, 2012.

Helen Marie Scott Knierim was born in Moniteau County Oct. 15, 1927, the daughter of Emmett Scott and Bessie Rosenmiller Scott. Her mother, Bessie, had passed away when Helen was three years old. Helen had taught school at the Pisgah one room school.

Helen married James Knierim November 28, 1946 and they farmed their whole life, until his death in 2001. She was a farmer’s wife who loved the outdoors and any activity relating to the outdoors.

She was a member of the Pleasant Grove United Church of Christ. Helen was very active in the Prairie Home community and had been instrumental in the success of the Prairie Home Fair for 60 years. She was active in the Cooper County Historical Society and she was the historian for the Prairie Home Alumni Association for many years.

Mrs. Knierim was preceded in death by her parents and by her step-mother, Frances Lohse Scott and by her only sister, Mary Brandes. She is survived by her daughter, Ginger Royston, of Salisbury, her grandson Daniel Royston (Amy) and great-grandson, Jackson Royston, also of Salisbury. Her sisters-in-law, Margaret Knierim, Ruth Cassil and Wilma Knierim and brother-in-law, Oscar Knierim, also survive. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at Davis Funeral Chapel on Monday morning at 11 a.m. with Rev. Chester Marshall officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery at Prairie Home. Visitation for Helen will be held one hour prior to the service, from 10 a.m. to service time.

Memorials are suggested to that of the donor’s choice.
