A sparkling light has vanished from our world.  Joan “Joanie” Fontaine McKee Harper, age 54, passed away peacefully after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She went to her heavenly home to be with her Lord on July 17, 2012, at Ventura County Medical Center in Ventura, Calif. Born on June 1, 1958, in Boonville, Mo., Joanie was the daughter of Helen Jackmon and Bobby Lawson.  

Joanie was raised in Fayette,  where she attended Fayette R-III Schools. She was a member of Second Baptist Church in Fayette. Her family later moved to Columbia, where she graduated from Hickman High School. After graduation, Joanie was employed with Boone County Hospital and the University of Missouri’s Campus Food Service. Joanie later moved to California, where she had worked in retail sales.   

A devoted mother, Joanie’s dedication to her children was prominent in her daily life. Her radiant smile and witty sense of humor will be greatly missed by all. Joanie enjoyed collecting beautiful angels and crosses with inspirational messages. She loved and trusted in the Lord.  

Predeceased by her brother, William Thornton Mckee, her grandmother, Fannie Eliza Jackmon, and her uncle, William Jackmon, Joanie is survived by her children, Cryshauna Mckee, Relicia Harper, Raphael Harper, Ramon Harper, and grandchild of Ventura, Calif.  She is also survived by her mother, Helen Jackmon of Wichita, Kan.; father, Bobby Lawson of Columbia; sisters, Elesia Gallop and her husband Anthony of Durham, N.C., Doressia McKee of Wichita, Kan., DeAnna McKee of Columbia, Gabrielle Morgan of Wichita, Kan., Joanie Thorpe, Tracy Lawson, Vickie Mitchell of Missouri; brothers, Kevin McKee of Wichita, Kan., Eddie McKee of Fla., Edward McKee of Columbia, Bobby Mitchell of N.M., Allen White, Durwin Houston, Tennessee Lawson of Missouri; aunt, JoAnn Jackmon of Fayette, uncles, Wallace Jackmon, Fayette, and Harry Jackmon, Las Vegas, N.V., and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  

The funeral service was held in Santa Barbara, Calif. followed by the interment.

The family would like to extend grateful thanks to cousin, Russana Rowles of Los Angeles, Calif. for her compassion and enduring support given to Joanie that brightened her days. Special thanks to the ICU nurses, Kelsey and Veronica at Ventura County Medical Center for their loving care.
