Herbert Nichols Palmer, age 94, of Fayette, Mo., passed away Wednesday, September 12, 2012, at Adams Street Place in Jefferson City, Mo.  

Herbert was born August 12, 1918, in central Missouri to the late Virgil N. and Kella O. Pickard Palmer.

He was married to Mary Ethaleen Jackson on May 11, 1937 in Howard County, Mo.  

Herbert was a heavy equipment operator for many years and was deeply respected throughout the area for the quality of his work. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with family members and friends. He was very proud of his family and always set a positive example for them. He was known for his perseverance despite adversity and was admired greatly for his endeavors.  

He is survived by a daughter, Elaine West and husband, Jerry of Jefferson City; a son, Wayne Palmer and wife Carolyn of Branson; one sister-in-law, Libby O’Brian, Branson; four grandsons, John (Lori), Jim (Susie) and Joe Palmer, Greg Besgrove; four granddaughters, Mary Lewey (Rick), Dana Wilkins (George), Jenise Soyster (Rob) and Joanna Tallman (Patrick). He is also survived by several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. In addition he is survived by Mary Besgrove and Tracey West.

In addition to his spouse and parents, Herbert was preceded in death by two grandsons, Randy Besgrove and Tony West and a sister, Dorothy Palmer.

Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, September 17, at the First Baptist Church in Fayette, Mo. The Funeral Service will follow with Robert Simpson officiating. Interment will follow at the Fayette City Cemetery.
