• THE OUTREACH LIBRARIAN will be available Wednesday in the New Franklin City Hall, 3:30 to 6:30.

• THE FAYETTE BOOK CLUB will host a discussion about “A Thousand Splendid Suns” Thursday beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Howard County Public Library. Refreshments will be provided.

• THE FAYETTE LICENSE OFFICE will be closed beginning next Friday, and remain closed through Sept. 13 for vacation. The office will reopen at 9 a.m.  Sept. 14.

• CMU BIOLOGY PROFESSOR Dr. Dan Elliott will present a program on Native Americans of Missouri this Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon. It will take place on the south side of the courthouse lawn.

• A DEDICATION CEREMONY for the Lincoln School Monument will take place Saturday, 11 a.m. at the site of the former Lincoln School on East Hackberry Street. The public is invited.

• TEAM SORTING will take place Saturday beginning at 7 p.m. at the Howard County Fairgrounds. For more information call Glenn or Trish Hilgedick at 660-248-3712 or 660-728-3153.

• FRIENDS OF CLARK’S CHAPEL will hold a service Sunday at 5 p.m. The Rev. Ryan Lyons will officiate. Persons of all faiths are invited to join in worship.

• LABOR DAY is Monday.

• THE 8TH ANNUAL BOONSLICK FOLK FESTIVAL will take place Labor Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Boone’s Lick State Historical Site on Highway 187.

• THE WHITE-BELL AMERICAN LEGION POST 273 AND AUXILIARY will meet Tuesday, 6 p.m., in Schnell Hall. A program about Services for Independent Living will be presented. All veterans and their spouses are welcome.

• THE FAYETTE CITY COUNCIL will meet Tuesday, at 7 p.m. in city hall.

• THE SOUTH HOWARD COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY will meet Tuesday, 7 p.m. in the SCHC Historical Society Museum in downtown New Franklin. James Meler will speak about steamboats of Missouri. Visitors are welcome.

• A RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE will take place next Wednesday, Sept. 8, from 2 to 6 p.m., in the St. Joseph Catholic Church Multipurpose Building.

• AUDITIONS for the musical “Seussical, Jr.” will take place next Wednesday, Sept. 8, from 3 to 8 p.m., in the Daly/Clark Middle School music room. Boys and girls ages 8 to 16 years old are needed. • THE PARENTS AS TEACHERS PLAY CENTER will be open for parents and their children on Tuesday mornings from 9 to 10:30 a.m. and Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9 to 10 a.m. The Play Center is located in the lower level of Fayette High School. • CMU’s ASHBY-HODGE GALLERY of American Art is featuring a wide range of works by many artists dating from the late 19th century to the present. Titled “4X20,” the display features four works each by 20 artists. The gallery, located on the basement level of the Smiley Library, is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.

• CMU’s STEPHENS MUSEUM is open to the public this semester on Tuesdays from 1to 3 p.m., Wednesdays from 2 to 4 p.m., and Thursdays from 1to 3 p.m.  Special tours at other times may be arranged by calling museum curator Dan Elliott at 248-6370.
