LeRoy Sanders passed away at Boone
Hospital Center in Columbia on September 27, 2012. He was 78.
Virgil LeRoy Sanders was born on August
8, 1934 in Forest Green, Mo., to Virgil and Katherine (Kramm) Sanders.
In 1952, he graduated from Salisbury High School. On March 10, 1957,
LeRoy married Esther LaBar at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in
Salisbury. LeRoy worked for KAW Transport 1960 to 1966. LeRoy and
Esther owned and operated the Tip Top Café in Glasgow from
1966-78. In 1978 he started his own trucking business and retired
from that in 1995. Upon his retirement he and Esther traveled the
United States, they spent a month in Alaska, and also took two trips
to Canada. LeRoy loved to play bingo and was an avid sports fan.
Never missing a game, LeRoy’s love for Glasgow Yellowjacket’s
athletics earned him “The Super Fan Award” at the GHS Athletic
Banquet in the spring of 2012.
He is survived by wife, Esther Sanders
of Glasgow; daughter, Jennifer Fuemmeler of Glasgow; son, Eric
Sanders of Metairie, LA; stepson, Eddie (Elizabeth) Payne of
Boonville; six grandchildren, Kurt and Brett Fuemmeler and
Nathan, Nicole, Nicolas, and Noah Sanders; several step-grandchildren
and great-grandchildren; sister, Rowena White of Fulton; two
brothers, Charley (Judy) Sanders of Jefferson City and Allen
(Monika) Sanders of Hartsburg; and also numerous nieces and
nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son,
Michael LeRoy Sanders, one stepson, Derald Payne, and one
brother-in-law, Wendell White.
Visitation for
Mr. Sanders was 5 to 8 p.m., Sunday evening at the Friemonth-Freese
Funeral Home in Glasgow. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Fayette, with Pastor Andrew Etzler officiating. Burial will be in Washington
Cemetery in Glasgow with Kurt and Brett Fuemmeler, Nathan Sanders,
Bill and Jim White, Howard and John Koester and Jeff Howard serving
as Pallbearers.
