Dates set for Santa Fe Trails Days

New Franklin City Council entertained two guests and a new city employee at their meeting Monday, July 10.
Barbara Maupin approached the council requesting approval for preparations for the annual Santa Fe Trail Days celebration.  The typical streets will be closed for the event September 15 and 16.  The council gave approval and added the dates to their calendar.
Kevin Redden addressed the council regarding concerns about a neighbor illegally burning and creating a nuisance with the smoke.  The council agreed to review the situation.
Other items covered;
•  minutes from previous meeting and budget meetings approved
• Adopt-A-Spot watering previously done by city employees on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, this has lapsed, council would like re-established
• Christian Church building is still under demolition, company running approximately two weeks behind
• bids for street work will be ready for approval by next meeting
New Franklin Police Chief Mike Wise introduced new part-time officer Kevin Bellmyer who has been filling in extra hours while Wise is attending conferences out of town and the department is shorthanded.  Wise attended the Missouri Police Chief’s conference last week and this week is attending LETSAC (Law Enforcement Training Safety Advisory Council).  Wise expressed his appreciation of the Howard County Sheriff’s Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol for their assistance while the department is short handed.
