Gretchen F. Shackelford
Gretchen F. Shackelford died at her home in Ventura, California, on Tuesday, May 30, 2017.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Roslyn Heights, 821 Main Street, Boonville, Missouri on August 10, 2017 at 1 p.m. with visitation from 12 to 1 p.m. Private interment will occur at a later date.
Born to Margaret (Sneed) and Wilbert F. Heddesheimer on Oct. 30, 1932, Gretchen would have been 85 years old this year. Gretchen was preceded in death by her parents, husband Sydney Shackelford, sister Anna Lou Wilson, and son-in-law John W. Johnson.
She is survived by her daughter Teresa (fiancé Tony Komer), granddaughters Gannon Johnson and Lane Staniland (husband Jon, son Talan), nieces Kimberly Dostoglou (son Dalton) and Kelli Wilson (husband Kurt), nephews Kent Wilson (wife Jaime and children) and John Newell, and many cousins.
Gretchen worked as an administrative assistant at both Hawthorne Company and Central Methodist College and, later, as a full-time homemaker. Her passions were her pets (dogs Cap, Bram, Storm, Petesa, Parker, Duke, Penny, and Sophie; cats Winston, Katmandu, and Abby), sporting events of all kinds, and political news reports and commentaries.
As a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (Arrow Rock, Columbia, and Mitz Khan-a-Khan Chapters) for over 55 years, she valued the many friends made, projects developed, and her service as the Missouri State Curator for Roslyn Heights from 1998 to 2002. She will be remembered for her wit, intelligence, and meticulous attention to detail and will be greatly missed by her many friends and family members.
In lieu of flowers, please consider contributing to her favorite charities (Roslyn Heights’ Development Fund and St. Joseph’s Indian School, P.O. Box 326 Chamberlain, SD. 57326) or another charity of your choosing.
