John G. Davis
Fayette resident John Davis passed away Sept. 21, 2017 at the Fayette Caring Center. He was 81 years of age.
John G. Davis was born August 10, 1936 in Columbus, MS, to William H. and Lucille (Eaton) Davis. The family moved to Howard County in 1949. John graduated from Harrisburg High School in 1954. He attended Central Methodist University in 1954 and 1955, then he enrolled at the University of Missouri graduating in 1959 with a degree in Agriculture.
In 1957 he joined the Missouri National Guard and was honorably discharged in 1965.
In 1969 John began teaching Vocational Agriculture at Fayette High School. He retired in 1990 from teaching but drove a school bus for Fayette School till 1996. In 1991 he began driving for Tiger Coaches and Tiger Air Express, in Columbia, MO retiring in 2009. Besides John’s teaching and driving jobs his true passion was farming, which he did most of his life.
John married Marilyn Jean Pettigrew in 1961. To this union, two children were born, Shelly Lee and Susan Lynn.
Marilyn and Shelly preceded him in death in 1968. John married Terry Ann Hitt in 1971 and she preceded him in death Nov. 26, 2010.
John is survived by one daughter, Susan Proctor and grandson, Tyler Proctor, both of Fayette, a step-daughter, Linda Bex and step-son, Mike Hauk, both of Nixa, Mo., and two step-granddaughters, Rachel and Beth Frink.
Besides his parents, two wives, and daughter, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Clark Davis.
A memorial service honoring John’s life will be 2 p.m., Sept. 30, 2017, at the Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Fayette with Rev. Paula Ritchie officiating. Visitation will be an hour before the service. Burial will be private at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Fayette Senior Center or Fayette First Christian Church in care of Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home.
