15-year-old CMU batting record falls

Posted

Fifteen years ago, Central Methodist senior Nate Breland finished his career as an Eagle with 241 hits. Little did he know fifteen years later, he would be the head coach of the program and one of his players would be responsible for breaking that longstanding record.

After holding the position of assistant coach and recruiting coordinator from 2007 to 2013, Breland was named the head coach on May 6, 2013.

Countless players have gone through Central’s baseball program under Breland’s tutelage, but none have been able to match the hit record Breland set, until  Friday.

Senior Logan Haring notched two hits in the opener Friday. The first tied the record at 241 and the second surpassed Breland’s career total. From that point on, every hit, at-bat, double, home run, and RBI Haring has until the end of the season will set a new Central record in that particular category.

In his remarkable career, Haring now has 689 at-bats, 53 doubles, 46 home runs, 216 RBI, and 245 hits.

Friday and Saturday Haring contributed to CMU taking three of four from Missouri Valley in Marshall, improving Central’s overall 2021 record to 26-4 and 13-2 in the Heart of America play. CMU remains the No. 4 ranked team in the country.
