A Community Update from Fayette Main Street, Inc.

Posted

Fayette Main Street, Inc. has started a monthly column to share the organization’s activities with the community. We are excited to share this first installment and provide a quick overview of what Fayette Main Street, Inc. is all about.

Fayette Main Street, Inc. is a legally incorporated not-for-profit in the state of Missouri affiliated with the Missouri Main Street Connection. Main Street is not a new program for Fayette, but we are seeing a resurgence of excitement and enthusiasm in our community!

Main Street is focused around four main points. Design, Economic Vitality, Promotion, and Organization. What do those four main points mean?

The Design committee is focused on making our downtown area a more friendly and inviting place to live, work, and shop.  From streetscape work and planter boxes to building façade grants to restore the historic character of many of our buildings, the design committee works hard to make our historic square an inviting place to be.

The Economic Vitality committee puts their work into how to support our existing businesses and expand the business offerings in the district. From helping plan various promotions to bring businesses and people to the square to introducing training workshops for our businesses and community. A current activity that the EV committee has undertaken is the new Kid’s Market on the 1st and 2nd Saturdays of the month, giving our young entrepreneurs a chance to sell their goods and learn about how to operate a business.

The Promotion committee works to develop events and activities on the square, bringing local people to the square as well as out-of-town visitors.  Recent events have included the drive-through Trunk or Treat, the Christmas Parade, and Crafts & Drafts Festival. The committee also supported the recent rededication of the historic bandstand on the courthouse lawn in April.

Coming up is the Fayette Main Street, Inc. production of Guys and Dolls on July 9 and 10 on the courthouse lawn. Additionally, the promotion committee will be working to develop a district-wide marketing plan for the Fayette Main Street district.

The Organization committee works hard to recruit and support the many volunteers who work to drive the program and to fund the programs of Fayette Main Street, Inc.

As an organization, we work closely with the city, the county, and Central Methodist University to make Fayette the place we all want it to be – a great place to call home and a great place for visitors! Fayette Main Street is an active participant of the CMU Visioning Committee, the Historic Preservation Commission, the Moberly Area Economic Development Corporation, and the Historic Downtown Fayette Commercial Community Improvement District, all working together to Move Fayette Forward! Together, these organizations are all working towards the same objective – to make Fayette a strong vibrant community for all!

Your Fayette Main Street, Inc. Board is made up of a group of citizens who put Fayette first. Board members are Kyle Elliott, President; Deanna Cooper, Vice President/President Elect; Scott Queen, Secretary; Michelle Ishmael, Treasurer; and members Landon Ball, Cara Owings, Derek Bryant, and Greg Thurmon. Mike Dimond is the full-time Executive Director.

In future columns we will bring news of the exciting things that are going on in Fayette Main Street and how this board, and the many volunteers who work on various projects, are working together on behalf of our entire town to support Fayette and our businesses and to make Fayette a place we are all proud to call home. If you have an interest in getting involved in Fayette Main Street, email us at fayettemomainstreet@gmail.com and we will find the perfect place for you on one of our committees and projects!
