Appreciate everyone support of Black History event

To the Editor:

I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to everyone who attended and supported our recent Black History event, “A Taste of Blackness”. Your presence and engagement made the gathering truly special, and it was inspiring to see our community come together to celebrate, learn, and reflect on the rich history and contributions of Black individuals.
A special thank you goes out to Rev. Charlie R. Wright, Sr. for providing the platform that made this event possible. His dedication to fostering meaningful dialogue and uplifting our community is truly commendable, and we are grateful for his leadership in creating a space where these important conversations could take place. Additionally, we sincerely appreciate St. Joseph Catholic Church for graciously allowing us to use their fellowship hall to host this event. Their generosity and support played a vital role in bringing the community together for this important occasion.
I would also like to recognize the incredible panelists who courageously shared their personal experiences of growing up Black in their communities. Their stories were not only powerful but also necessary in fostering understanding and meaningful conversations about the challenges and triumphs that continue to shape Black lives today. Their voices provided invaluable insight and inspiration, reminding us all of the importance of representation and resilience.
While the event was a success, it also highlighted the need for greater involvement from our community leadership. True progress requires the active participation of those in positions of influence—leaders who can advocate for change, support initiatives that promote inclusivity, and stand alongside us in efforts to build a stronger, more united community. We encourage our local leaders to step up, listen, and engage in these important discussions—not just during Black History Month but throughout the year.
Thank you again to everyone who contributed to this event’s success. Let’s continue to work together to ensure that history is not just remembered, but that it also serves as a foundation for a more just and equitable future for all.

Sincerely,
Lue Lockridge-Lane
