Dustin Gipson went 3-3 at the plate and struck out 11 batters in the first game of Harrisburg’s double header at Boonville on Thursday, but it wasn’t enough as the Bulldogs scored just one run in the 4-1 loss.
Harrisburg and Boonville were tied 4-4 after two and a half innings in the second game, but the Pirates scored 10 unanswered for a 14-4 win in the nightcap.
A single and a couple of passed balls helped the Pirates push a run across in the first inning of the early game. Boonville added two runs in the fifth inning to take a 4-0 lead. Gipson’s third single of the day came in the sixth inning and Brayden Ott’s double drove him home.
Gavin Curtis and Travis Gardiner each had a hit in the loss. Gipson allowed three earned runs on five hits and a walk over six innings.
In the second game, the Bulldogs took advantage of five walks and two hit batsmen to tie the Pirates up 4-4 in the top of the third inning, but the Harrisburg batters were held hitless in the four-inning loss.
Ott, Curtis, Trevor Smoot, and Austin Bruns scored runs for Harrisburg in the second game. Joshua Cochran and Zollie Robertson each had an RBI.
