One hundred dollars for baking a cake? Area cake enthusiasts will have the chance to compete during the Great Fayette Bake Off Cake Show during the Fayette Festival of the Arts on Saturday, August 3.

All types of cakes are eligible for entry and will be adjudicated by a panel of three judges: Gwen Weathers, Fayette Mayor Greg Stidham, and Bekki Galloway. The first prize entry will receive $100 cash, courtesy of local non-profit radio station 94.7 KPIP. Following the contest, the cakes will all be auctioned off to the public by auctioneer Charlie Flaspohler.

Cakes may be dropped off inside the Howard County Courthouse between 8 and 10:30 a.m. the day of the festival. The first, second, and third-place winners will be announced, and the cakes will be raffled off at the bandstand at noon.

Additional information on the Great Fayette Bake Off Cake Show may be found online at www.fayettefestival.org.

The Fayette Festival of the Arts includes vendors on the courthouse square, a Kid’s Market, live music on the bandstand, the 23rd Annual Fayette Art Show at the Ashby/Hodge Gallery in Classic Hall on the CMU Campus, the Peacemakers Quilt Show at Linn Memorial UMC, a Children’s Art Show inside the Courthouse, the Great Fayette Bake Off cake show and auction, a performance of Peter and the Wolf by FACT, plus activities for the kids including face painting, a bounce house, a magician, and the Kids Korner.

The festival culminates around the Howard County Courthouse. Live music will be performed starting at 9 a.m. The Columbia Community Band will perform at 11 a.m. More information on the festival will be published in upcoming editions of the Advertiser.
