Former high school track stars won the first-ever Firecracker 5k race Monday. Malia Carmack, from Glasgow, won the women’s division with a time of 24 minutes and 51 seconds. Fayette native Zach Henderson won the men’s division with a time of 22 minutes and 59 seconds.
Sponsored by Fayette Main Street, Inc., the race kicked off a day of festivities on July 4. Approximately 40 participants young and old ran, walked, pushed strollers, and brought along pets for the five-kilometer race that began and ended on South Main Street in front of Tricky Fish Community Hall.
Members of the Fayette Main Street’s Promotional Committee and helpers included Murphy Quint, Liz Dougherty, Toni Morris, Mackenzie Wells, Michelle Ishmael, and Becky Callahan.
