The Fayette Board of Aldermen is looking for a new Southwest Ward representative. Former Alderwoman Leanna Shiflett resigned from her seat, citing she did not have the time to dedicate to the position.
In April, she won a two-way race for the seat and even left her job to accept the position on the board.
Whoever the mayor appoints will need to be approved by a majority of the remaining five alderwomen. That appointment will last until the next municipal election on April 8, 2025. The winner of that election will then serve out the seat’s term, which ends in April 2026.
Up for election this coming April will be the Northwest Ward seat held by Peggy O’Connell and the East Ward seat held by Stephanie Ford. O’Connell said last week she intends to run for a second term.
Filing for the next municipal elections opens on Tuesday, December 10, and closes at the end of business on Tuesday, December 31.
