The Clark Middle School girls’ basketball team swept the Central State 8 Conference Tournament last week in New Bloomfield, and is on the way to possibly becoming the winningest Fayette team in CMS history.

On Saturday, the Lady Falcons claimed the tournament title with a rout over Eugene, 46-16. Leading 12-7 at halftime, Fayette turned in a blistering second-half performance, outscoring the Owls 34-9.

Seventh-grader Avery Friebe led all scorers with 12 points, followed by Brylee Eubanks and Caroline Young with nine points apiece.

“I’m proud of this group’s effort, growth, and teamwork,” said Fayette coach Logan Ball.

The Lady Falcons opened the tournament with a 31-13 victory over New Bloomfield on Dec. 9. Hallie Ball and Eubanks scored eight each to lead the team. Karolynne De La Torre added six.

The following night, Fayette scored a 24-14 win over South Callaway in the semifinals. Hallie Ball again led the way with eight points, followed by Brylee Eubanks and Tinley Felten with six points apiece.

Both the A and B teams have combined for a season record of 22-2, with six games scheduled for this week to close out the year. Those include home games on Wednesday and Thursday. The Lady Falcons have a chance to win the most games in school history at the junior high level.
