The No. 3 Central Methodist softball team pushed its win streak to 16 games with a pair of Heart doubleheader blowouts over the weekend in which the Lady Eagles surrendered only one run. Central took down Park 10-1 and 7-0 in Kansas City on Saturday before returning home for two shutout wins over Peru State on Sunday, 6-0 and 9-0.

Fayette native and CMU sophomore Jordyn Ball ratcheted her win total to 16 on the year with two dominant performances from the pitching circle on both days. She struck out eight of 29 batters faced in Saturday’s opener, allowing just one unearned run off three hits and three walks in a complete seven-inning outing.

Back at Cox Softball Complex on Sunday, Ball gave up just one hit and fanned four batters as the Lady Eagles got the job done in five innings.

Behind her, the defense was on point. Ball only made three pitches in the top of the second inning, inducing two ground outs and a fly out.

Central’s offense was on dialed in all weekend. The Eagles unleashed 17 hits against Park University in the first game on Saturday. First baseman Elizabeth Palumbo led the way with a home run and double, driving in three runners. Cleanup hitter Madison White also drove in three runners while going 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Madison Roberts and leadoff Kelena Oots each had four hits, with Roberts recording a double and one RBI.

Daly Garland rounded out the extra-base hitters with a double in a 2-for-3 performance at the plate with a walk and two runs scored.

Pitcher Haile Farris picked up her 10th win of the season with a seven-inning perfect game in Saturday’s nightcap. The senior from Camdenton, Mo., allowed no hits or runs, nor issued a walk, and struck out four of 21 batters faced.

Central’s offensive power continued in game two of the doubleheader, with four of the team’s 10 hits going for extra bases. Joley Crider crushed a long ball to right center for a two-RBI homer in the seventh. Madison White hit two doubles in three at-bats. Madison Roberts delivered a game-high three RBI with a double and a walk.

Farris got the call again in the first of a two-game series against Peru State on Sunday. She surrendered seven hits and two walks but didn’t allow a run, with seven strikeouts in a complete seven-inning game that only lasted 82 minutes.

Central drove in six runs on seven hits. Kelena Oots led the team with a 2-for-3 performance with a double and two runs scored. Elizabeth Palumbo and Lauren Hill each doubled, and both led the offense with two RBI each.

Central made easy work of Park in a five-inning shutout to complete the weekend. Park’s only base runner of the day reached on the team’s lone hit, a single to right field by No. 8 hitter Kaylee Harsh in the top of the third.

Central third baseman Daly Garland had a highlight third inning. She made back-to-back athletic catches, both line drives in foul territory, that drew ovations from her teammates and the CMU faithful in the stands.

At the plate, Central drove in seven runs on six hits, all in the first two innings.

The Eagles capitalized on pitching struggles by Peru starter Jessica Filkin. She plunked Joely Crider with the bases loaded in the first inning. Two more runs scored on wild pitches in the second.

Six different Lady Eagles earned hits, one each from Kaysie Jolley, Elizabeth Palumbo, Madison Roberts, Madison White, Lauren Hill, and Carly Robbins. Madison Roberts and Carly Robbins led the team with two RBI each.

Roberts and Kaysie Jolley each doubled.

The Lady Eagles look to keep their perfect 14-0 conference record alive with two Heart road doubleheaders this weekend. On Saturday, Central will face William Penn for a doubleheader in Oskaloosa, Iowa. On Sunday, Central travels to Des Moines, Iowa, to face Grand View in a two-game series.

Central returns home on Tuesday for a doubleheader against rival Missouri Valley College. Games begin at 3 and 5 p.m.
