Central Methodist senior short stop Robbie Merced was named to the NAIA 2023 Preseason Baseball All-American Team.
The NAIA announced team on Tuesday ahead of the 2023 campaign. The 17-player list is selected annually by the NAIA-Baseball Coaches Association (NAIA-BCA) All-America Committee
Merced, the 2022 Heart Player of the Year, made an immediate impact in his first season with CMU this past spring. He appeared in 57 games and batted .444 with 76 hits including 11 doubles, four triples, and a single-season program record 24 home runs. He also recorded 86 RBI, a new single-season record, and was top five nationally in both RBI and home runs.
For his efforts, the Springfield, Missouri native was named a NAIA First Team All-American in 2022. He also led the Eagles to a 42-15 overall record, a 23-9 mark in conference play, and their seventh-straight trip to the NAIA National Tournament.
The Eagles will open the 2023 season with a weekend series against Our Lady of the Lake at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 3 in San Antonio, Texas.
